Calligraphy in architecture

Geometric Kufic script.
Calligraphy is a common decorative element in Islamic architecture.  I have noticed beautiful script on buildings throughout the Fez Medina, and was inspired to make this drawing after a recent discovery.

Kufic script is the oldest type of Arabic calligraphy, and was named after the city of Kufa, in Iraq.  It was in this script that the oldest copies of the Qur'an were written.
The phrase written here is:  لا حول ولا قوة أو قوة إلا بالله الرحيم'  There is no power or strength except with Allah.'   The Shahada or the Islamic creed is also a common phrase written on the exterior of mosques, أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله و أشهد أن محمد رسول الله  There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger.

Arabic calligraphy is an art form seen in print, paintings, clothes, and architecture. It influences every part of Middle Eastern society...it has even carried over to Spain due to the Spanish Moors.

I've been surfing on-line more than three hours lately, yet I by no means discovered any fascinating article like yours. It's pretty value sufficient
for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made excellent content as you probably did, the internet can be much more helpful than ever before.
